Mother’s Day
Hey everyone out there,
It’s Mother’s day today! Go tell your mom or your grandma or somebody how much you love them!
On a different note,
Have you heard of Methusaleh? Yeah, he was the grandad of Noah and the son of Enoch. His name meant “When he is dead, it shall be sent.” God told Enoch that when his son Methusaleh died, He would send judgement.
The ironic thing is that the lifespan of this boy Methusaleh would show the mercy of God! Short life? Little mercy. Long life? Very merciful. Methusaleh was the oldest recorded human being. He died at the ripe old age of 969, a few months before the Great Flood that killed almost everyone on the earth.

Very good point about Methuselah. Not only is his name a testament of God’s mercy but the prophetic grace granted to his father Enoch (a prophet, no less) is merciful in itself because God warned mankind.

A person on the Evolutionfairytale.com forums said something about how Methusaleh’s age was in months, not years. I highly doubt it, but what do you think?

Well, if Methusaleh’s age (”And the days of Methusaleh’s life were 969 years, and he died.”) was given in months, that means that all the “years” in the book of the geneology of Adam are really months. That is perposterous. For example, I don’t think that Enoch had Methusaleh when he was 5 years old, and I don’t think that Shem had Araphaxad when he was 3.

I think D3 pretty much covered all the bases…
People do find it hard to reconcile the longevity of the early years of man to those of today. If you read the Genesis closely, however, it’s quite easy. The creation account tells of the “water above the earth.” Biblical scholars say that this was an atmospheric canopy that protected the earth from too much radiation, etc. Because of this protection, everything, not just man, would age slower and live longer.
This also explains how the world could be entirely covered in water (as there had, up to the Flood, not been any rain on the earth). Once the flood came though, the canopy was drained…gone. And ever since then, the longevity of man has declined significantly (look, even in the first generation of Flood survivors, there’s hundreds of years in difference!).
